"The adopted joint declaration reflects our thoughts and ideas related to the bilateral ties, situation in the region and many common issues", said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at yesterday's meeting with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves after signing the declaration, according to AzerTac.
"As for the resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the said document fixes that the problem must be settled on the basis of the principle of the territorial integrity, resolutions of the UN Security Council and OSCE resolutions.
We hope that such an approach will lead to the resolution of the conflict and hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis, sufferring from Armenian aggression and ethnic cleansing will be able to return to their native lands. Certainly, the resolution of the Karabakh conflict was among the topics of discussions we held today. We hope that in the coming months we will see the development of this process. Azerbaijan's position bases only on the norms and principles of international law and this is the only way leading to the conflict resolution.
We have discussed the situation and security issues in the region, including the energy policy. Azerbaijan which has large oil ad gas fields as well as a modern infrastructure for transportation of oil and gas will further play a more important role in the diversification of energy supplies. We have already reached all main goals in our country. We have diversified the system of energy transportation. I am confident that in the future the relations between Azerbaijan and European consumers will develop successfully.
The Azerbaijani President noted that by its actions our country has demonstrated that it is a reliable partner of foreign companies, making investments of billions of dollars here.
"We have created a favorable investment climate in Azerbaijan. At the same time, we are a reliable supplier. Oil and gas are exported from Azerbaijan to different corners of the world. There have never been cases of suspension of suppliers and the consumer never faced any problems.
Thus, the projects launched by Azerbaijan, such as the BTC and South Caucasus pipeline, have created a new situation in the sphere of energy sources diversification in the region. Both producers and consumers need diversification. Certainly, transit countries must play an important role and use their geographical situation. The recent events, we are listening to in the news, make us grow confident that currently the importance of these issues is growing. Therefore, in the future the energy policy must serve to friendship and cooperation. It must make the nations closer, not distance them from each others.
The important energy summit held in November of the last year in Baku, its decisions and the declaration openly demonstrate our agenda. Azerbaijan will continue playing a constructive role in energy supply diversification. Our partners can be sure that Azerbaijan as a reliable partner and friend will continue playing an important role in the future", said the head of the state.
