Artur Lenk: "What would the residents of Lenkoran expect from their government, if they were fired at by the neighbor states? Certainly, Azerbaijani people would demand to put an end to it"

In 2005 Israel quited Gaza with the only hope - to establish peace with the Palestinian people. Israel aimed to establish peace and stability in the region for Palestinian people to be able to build schools, raise children and create better future for them, said ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Israel to Azerbaijan Artur Lenk, commenting on Azerbaijan's position regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict.

According to him, instead of creating peace and ensuring prosperity, Hamas has been importing weapons from Iran for the purpose of sending rockets to Israel.

"We are interested in peace with the Palestinian people. Israel has managed to attain peace with Jordan and Egypt. We are negotiating with head of the Palestinian administration Mahmud Abbas to attain peace between the two people.

Yet Hamas does not agree on such an approach. This terror group considers that Israel must not exist at all. Reconciliation of Hamas has been attained under Egypt's support. Further Hamas announced that it does not want reconciliation with Israel.

And now I am going to ask you a question. What would the residents of Lenkoran expect from their government, if they were fired at by the neighbor states? Certainly, Azerbaijani people would demand to put an end to it".

As for the position of Azerbaijan on this issue he said Israel did not expect anything from Azerbaijan, as it did not ask for anything. Lenk stressed that Azerbaijan and Israel are friendly countries and they are highly evaluating their relations, including Azerbaijan's position on the situation in Gaza.

"We are highly evaluating Baku's position and we know that most officials of Azerbaijan wish and hope that there will be peace in our region. In turn Israel also hopes for establishment of peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

He refused to comment on Baku's position.

"You can ask the Azerbaijani powers about it. From my side I would like to note that we maintain positive relations with Azerbaijan. Both states wish peace, stability and prosperity in both regions.
