First president of Armenia: "Armenia has never been in such a dangerous state, as now, yet the country's president does not take any measures"

18 October 2008 [10:40] - TODAY.AZ
"Armenia is in a difficult external political situation", considers first president of Armenia and leader of Armenian opposition Levon Ter-Petrosyan.
"Armenia has never been in such a dangerous state, as now, yet the country's president does not take any measures. This situation threatens with irreversible implications and bilateral actions of the West in the direction of the resolution of the Karabakh conflict", he said at oppositional meeting in Yerevan on October 17.

At the same time, Ter-Petrosyan considers that there is threat of the unilateral settlement of the conflict from the Russian side via the principle of preservation of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, as Azerbaijan will not agree to it, like it did in May of 1994.

According to the first president, the basis of the program of the resolution of the Karabakh conflict will include 10 principles:

- withdrawal of Armenian forces from the Azerbaijani lands, adjacent to Karabakh
- settlement of these lands by Azerbaijani refugees
- their return to Karabakh
- provision of land communication between Armenia and "Nagorno Karabakh Republic" via Lachin
- deployment of international peacekeeping forces along the Karabakh border
- demilitarization of the lands, returned to Azerbaijan
- opening of the Armenian-Turkish border
- definition of the intermediate status of "Nagorno Karabakh Republic"
- holding plebiscite to define its status
- international financial aid to restore the conflict area.
