25 July 2008 [17:15] - TODAY.AZ
Officials of the Imishli region police station arrested retiree lieutenant-colonel Qabil Shirinov.
Chairman of the Imishli region organization of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Mahbub Zulfugarov said Shirinov was arrested on July 24 as he was visiting the Martyrs' Alley.

The detained was arrested for 15 days by decision of the court.

According to Zulfugarov, Shirinov previously appealed to deputies and state structures with a request to stop construction, conducted in the Martyrs' Alley.

In turn, the chancellery of the Imishli regional court announced that Shirinov is charged under article 310 of the Code of Administration Crimes (deliberate disobedience to the legal demand of police officer or a serviceman).

Party chairman Sardar Jalaloghlu noted that a criminal case has been instituted against the chairman of the Imishli region organization.

"The preliminary session is under way, after which the chairman of the Imishli region organization and head of the election campaign team of the said region will be arrested.

The reason was that Zulfugarov spoke against conduction of the construction in the territory of the Martyrs' Alley, which was permitted by the Executive powers of the region. A claim demanding to protect honor and dignity has been filed against him.

So many sites have been sold in the said region that it came down to the sale of the territory of Martyrs' Alley, located in the central part of the region.

If our activist is arrested, the activity of the election campaign team will be paralyzed, which is made with a purpose of restricting the activity of the party in the region", noted Jalaloghlu.
