Qudrat Hasanquliyev: "Nomination of a single candidate from Azerbaijani opposition is not ruled out"

25 July 2008 [11:11] - TODAY.AZ
"Talks between opposition leaders on nomination of a single candidate will finish after presidential campaign starts", said chairman of the Single Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, MP Qudrat Hasanquliyev.
He said the talks are delayed because the leaders of the parties are waiting for the official start of presidential elections to pass a decision about participation in the presidential elections.

"The talks are mainly conducted between the parties, represented in the Center of Democratic Elections, as well as other party chairmen.

Depending on the process of the election campaign, the situation may change and candidates may agree on nomination of a single candidate for presidential elections. This variant is not ruled out.

In line with the law, a candidate for president can call back his candidacy in favor of another candidate within 10 days before elections", noted he.

Qudrat Hasanquliyev also added that the party also intends to participate in the elections till the end.

"Yet, everything can happen in this life. If situation changes and there is a candidate, who will have a better agitation campaign and have greater chances, we may review our decision", concluded Hasanquliyev.

It should be noted that the center of democratic elections includes the Azerbaijan Classical front party, Great Creation Party, Single Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Great Azerbaijan party, Tekkamul party, Azadlyg party and Open Society Party.
