Migom stops monetary transfers to Nagorno Karabakh, while VTB still cooperates with separatists - PHOTO - UPDATED

Migom has stopped monetary transfers in the direction of Nagorno Karabakh, said chief of Migom monetary transfers department Lev Chugunov.

"In a response to your publication at the Day.Az website of July 23 of 2008, we would like to note that we understand your anxiety about the said issue and have already introduced changes to the activity of the Migom monetary transfers, stopping the monetary transfers in the Nagorno Karabakh direction", says the press service for Migom.

As is noted in the official response of the press service, the National Bank of Azerbaijan has appealed to the Migom system with a letter, pointing at the mistakes, made in the names of Azerbaijani cities, where this service is being offerred.

"The Migom system is currently actively cooperating with banks-partners in Azerbaijan on the said issue and is ready to take due measures in order to prevent such facts".

It was noted in the conclusion that "respecting the sovereignty of the Azerbaijani Republic, its history and culture, we do not claim for participation in the disputes over the territorial integrity of the country and do not want to hurt the Azerbaijani people".

Migom system of monetary transfers has corrected the mistake on its website. Now Stepanakert, as they call Khankendi, is not on the list of Armenian cities. But the correction was held without any explanations by Migom.

Yet, we are sure that the main mistake has not been corrected, which is the ban of monetary transfers from Nagorno Karabakh and back.

Perhaps, the issue can be fully exhausted only in case the management of Migom monetary transfers system fully closes access to monetary transfers to Nagorno Karabakh, while to to take the step just for appearance is at least not serious.

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry will give due instructions to the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Russia to clarify the situation, connected with cooperation of the Russian Vneshtorqbank with Artzakhbank, functioning in Khankendi, said spokesman for Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Khazar Ibrahim.

He noted that the Foreign Ministry is investigatng these facts and will take due measures.

At the website of Migom monetary tranfer system, a list of cities, maintaining a contract with the said system, emerges when Armenia is selected. "Stepanakert" city is fixed in the said list, which is inadmissible as Khankendi is an Azerbaijani city (see photo below)

It should be noted that the Migom monetary transfers system is widely spread in Azerbaijan.

Another significant moment deserves special attention. Thus, if we pay attention to one of the pages of the Migom corporate website, it becomes clear tht VTB Bank is dealing with receipt and transfer of money to Khankendi by Migom system.

VTB is one of the leaders of the Russian banking sector and occupies firm competitive positions on all segments of banking market.

Its management plans to purchase a bank in Azerbaijan. It should be noted that during Russian President's recent visit to Azerbaijan, he was accompanied by VTB president Andrei Kostin who said "the deal on purchase of control stock in Azerbaijan AF Bank will complete in two months".

VTB has previously intended to purchase one of Azerbaijani banks, but the main obstacle for completion of a deal on purchase of control share in Azerbaijan AF Bank was illegal opening of an affiliate of in Nagorno Karabakh by the Russian Bank. VTB assurred the Azerbaijani side in late June that the affiliage had been shutdown, which is now turns out to be a lie.
