Eldar Namazov fails to meet with Rasul Quliyev in the United States

"My visit to the United States was one of the concluding measures in my program of international relations as to preparations for the forthcoming presidential elections. Before that I have visited Strasbourg, Brussels, Ankara, Paris and Moscow through the past year", said head of the forum "For Azerbaijan" Eldar Namazov, commenting on his visit to the United States.

He said the meetings in the State Department were held with deputies and assistants Secretary of State and a briefing was organized for officials of several departments-regional, department of democracy and human rights, legal, as well as the state agency for economic cooperation in Washington.

"Meetings were held in both houses of the Congress with people, regulating international ties, as well as in the Commission for cooperation and security in Europe. There were numerous meetings in the famous international nongovernmental organizations, with mass media representatives and Azerbaijani diaspora.

During the meeting I even had to put off the departure and prolong the program as there were many people, willing to meet and discuss. I am satisfied with the conducted negotiations, and if nothing unusual occurs, the visit to the United States will become my last foreign visit before the upcoming elections. Now it is time to focus on internal affairs.

Our meetings were held in the absence of press. This, on the one hand, allows to discuss situation openly and sincerely and, on the other hand. imposes certain commitments of confidentiality. But I can refer to the statement of the US Secretary of State, which she made in Prague and Tbilisi in the days of my visit to Washington and which created a stir in Azerbaijan. In the principle, most US diplomats and experts share these assessments", noted he.

As for whether he had a meeting with Rasul Quliyev, he said:

"My visit has been planned several months before and the exact date and the program was defined by the US side. By accident, it took place when Rasul Quliyev was out of the country. Therefore, we had several phone conversations and discussed all issues of mutual concern.
