Robert Simmons: "Azerbaijan may expand its peacekeeping contingent in Afghanistan"

After withdrawal of Azerbaijani peacekeeping forces from Kosovo, President of Azerbaijan, speaking at the Bucharest summit of NATO, said his country is ready to double its peacekeeping contingent in Afghanistan, Robert Simmons, special representative of NATO Secretary General on South Caucasus and Central Asia said at the press conference by results of his visit to Azerbaijan.

He said NATO supports this step.

"It is necessary to pass a certain procedure to expand the contingent, which takes time. After that, Azerbaijan can expand its peacekeeping contingent in Afghanistan", said Simmons.

It should be noted that presently 45 servicemen from Azerbaijan are taking part in the international peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan.
