Qanira Pashayeva: "One of the most serious problems of Azerbaijan is that hundreds of Azerbaijani women are in Armenian captivity for over 15 years"

Hundreds of Armenian women remain in Armenian captivity, they are kept there for over 15 years and this is one of the most serious problems in Azerbaijan, sais Milli Medjlis deputy Qanira Pashayeva during the World Women's Summit held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

She told of the results of occupation of 20% Azerbaijani lands by Armenians, millions of refugees and IDPs, who had to leave their homes, of bloodshed, committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis, especiallt women and children in Khojaly in February of 1992.

Stressing adoption of four resolutions of the UN General Assembly, urging to release the occupied lands of Azerb aijan as well as the recently adopted resolution of the UN General Assembly about situation in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, she noted that our country expects a more fair approach of the world society to the issue.

Pashayeva also informed the participants about the state policy on the settlement of the problems of women, decree of the President in the sphere of this policy conduction, in particular, creation of the State Committee on issues of families, women and children.

The deputy also spoke of the state program on poverty reduction and consistent development, intended for 2006-2015, where special attention is paid to gender issues.

The deputy called on business.women, attending the event to invest into Azerbaijan and stressed favorable investment climate and high economic growth rates in the country.

She also spoke of the activity, conducted by initiative of the first lady of Azerbaijan, president of Heydar Aliyev's foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, related to issues of families, women and children.

It should be noted that in the framework of the summit Pashayeva met with President of the summit Irene Natvidad, Cambodia Minister on Women's issues Chum Teav Ing Kantkha Favi, secretary general of Egypt Women's Council Fahrunda Hasan, president of women's association of Laos Susay Leudedmounson, Maldives Minister on family and gender Aishat Mohammed Didi, deputy minister of trade and industry of South Africa Elizabeth Tkhabetkhe, deputy minister of labor and social works of Vietnam Nuyukh Tkhi Nkhan, head of Lebanon delegation Huda Fathi ben Aamir.
