Rasul Quliyev's party: "People must also join the boycott of presidential elections"

03 June 2008 [10:34] - TODAY.AZ
"The Open Society Party respects the tactics of boycotting presidential elections by Azadlyg bloc, yet it considers that Azerbaijani opposition is not able to influence the situation", said deputy party chairman Yaqub Abbasov.

He said a boycott is a form of protest, which should be conducted by the people.

"It is possible to adopt a decision to reject participation in the elections. Yet, a boycott itself is a mass form of protest, which should involve people. If this form of protest acquires this nature, opposition will prefer it.

At the same time, each party has its own decision, which has argumented sides. In particular, the bloc considers it impossible to attain any positive changes with such an Electoral Code. This is their political decision", noted he.

Abbasov also added that if boycott includes all political parties, this tactics may bring success in a sense.

"Yet in current realities each party has its own decision about participation in the elections, therefore, it is difficult to judge about the success of such a form", concluded he.

It should be noted that this political structure is led by former speaker of Azerbaijani parliament Rasul Quliyev.
