Turkish Prime Minister to visit Nakhchivan

27 May 2008 [10:13] - TODAY.AZ
Prime Minister of Turkey Rejep Tayip Erdoghan plans to visit Nakhchivan in early June, reports Turan agency with reference to sources in Nakhchivan.
As is reported, Erdoghan will arrive to Nakhchivan by car via the Sadarak customs point.

It is planned to hold Erdoghan's meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Nakhchivan. They will discuss socioeconomic development of the autonomous republic and eastern regions of Turkey.

In particular, they will discuss such projects, as construction of the Kars-Nakhchivan railroad, Erzirum-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. The railway section to connect Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with Baku-Tbilisi-Kars road will restore the communication of Nakhchivan with the rest of Azerbaijan.

The construction of the pipeline section from Erzirum to Nakhchivan will help conduct direct gas supplies from Baku to Nakhchivan. Nakhchivan currently receives gas from Iran.

Erdoghan and Aliyev will also discuss opening of air communication by Nakhchivan-Istanbul route.

As it was announced previously, last week Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade paid a one-day visit to Turkey and by some information they discussed the upcoming visit of the Turkish Prime Minister to Nakhchivan.

The consulate general of Tyrkey to Nakhchivan refused to comment on the upcoming visit of Erdoghan, recommending to appeal to the Turkish embassy to Baku, yet Turan agency failed to get information about it from the embassy as well.

It should be noted that for the first time Turkish Prime Minister visited Nakhchivan 16 years ago-the then prime minister Suleyman Demirel visited Nakhchivan in 1992 and attended the opening of the frontier motor highway bridge in Sadarak.
