23 May 2008 [10:59] - TODAY.AZ
The appeal of the former chief of Azerbaijan's Presidential Administration Akif Muradverdiyev against the decision of the Binaqadi district court was considered in the Appellate Court today, according to a source from the court.

In line with the decision, the Appellate Court, presided by judge Etibar Nabiyecv, did not grant Muradverdiyev's appeal for permission to leave for country for receiving treatment abroad.

It should be noted that previously the Azerbaijan's Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Muradverdiyev for six years of imprisonment under articles 179.3.2. (misappropriation of state property), 308.2 (abuse of powers), 311 (bribery), and 313 ( forgery). The Appellate court upheld the decision of the first instance court.

On January 15 the appeal against the decision of the Appellate Court was considered under the chairmanship of judge Taptiq Makhmudov.

With application of article 70 (conditional verdict), it was decided that the sentence on Muradverdiyev is provisional in a form of five years of probation.

He was released and appealed to the Binagadi district court regarding permission to leave the country, yet the instance did not grant the appeal.
