"Azerbaijan's strategic importance has attracted many countries, which tried to capture this country, its history and culture, throughout the history, Elnur Aslanov, chief of department of political analysis and information supply under the Presidential Board of Azerbaijan, said.

"The intention of Armenia's ruling elite to occupy Azerbaijani lands destabilizes the situation in the South Caucasus region", said Elnur Aslanov at the International conference "History as it is".

The two-day international conference on the genocide of Azerbaijanis-March 31, started in Baku today.

Aslanov said Armenians, who occupied Azerbaijani lands and committed atrocities against Azerbaijanis, present themselves as victims to the world society.

"This is an unprecedented provocations. Histocal scientists of other people wrote about the atrocities, committed by Armenians during the genocide against Azerbaijanis. This means that these facts are not our subjective opinion. However, the false Armenian propaganda has formed a wrong opinion in some of the country, which is proven by recognition of the so called "Armenian genocide", Aslanov said.

In turn, Azerbaijan's vice speaker of Parliament Bahar Muradova noted that Armenia is not able to conduct worthy struggle in any issue. "However, we should protect our image and show peaceful intention towards those who are our enemies", the vice speaker said.

A book "Confessions of Armenian elite" was presented at the conference and a film on genocide of March 31 committed 90 years ago was demonstrated.

In 1918 Armenians committed mass genocide in Azerbaijan. Tens of thousands of peaceful citizens were killed with cruelty in various cities of the country, Novosti-Azerbaijan reports.
