Armenian representative in UN: "Azerbaijan's resolution will undermine peaceful negotiations on Karabakh"

15 March 2008 [14:37] - TODAY.AZ
The resolution of the UN General Assembly demanding immediate withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, adopted on March 14, will undermine peaceful negotiations.

The due announcement was made by Armen Martirosyan, Armenia's permanent representative under the UN General Assembly.

"The responsible mediators of this conflict found this resolution not complying with peaceful negotiations. Armenia realizes that it will undermine the negotiation process", said Martirosyan before the voting.

The Armenian permanent representative assessed the document introduced by Baku as contradicting the fundamental international norms and as an attempt of sabotage of the negotiation process by the Azerbaijani side.

It should be reminded that the General Assembly has adopted the document with 39 votes for and 7 against. The voting involved 147 out of 192 UN member-states. 100 member-states abstained from voting.
