Baki-Kheber opposition newspaper's accounts blocked

29 January 2008 [10:58] - TODAY.AZ
On January 27, the publishing house of the Baki-Kheber newspaper was informed that its accounts, transfered from the sale of the newspapers via the Gaya, Gasid and Azermatbuatyaim, were blocked.

Sources in the publishing house told APA that the letters to the aforementioned distribution companies were signed by Zaur Abdullayev, deputy chief of Department of Law Enforcement Officers of the Yasamal district.

The letter states that for the execution of the court decision on the repayment of a debt in the amount of 2,179 AZN 40 qepiks, the assets, received from the sale of the Baki-Kheber newspaper, transfered to the publishing house either by bill or in cash.

The companies are demanded to transfer the assets, received from the sale of the newspaper, to the deposit account of judicial controllers and law enforcement officers of the Yasamal district.

It should be noted that on May 4 of 2005 the Appellate Court of Azerbaijan passed a decision to distract an amount of 2,179 AZN 40 qepiks from the accounts of the Baki-Kheber newspaper to compensate for the damage caused to Ujar region resident Shahlar Khalil oglu Alekperov.

In May of 2007 the decision was adopted for execution by department of law-enforcement officers of the Sabail district, where the temporary office of the newspaper locates and therefore Baki-Kheber was obliged to suspend operation for three months.

The newspaper resumed operating in September of 2007.
