Mirza Sakit stops hunger strike

Correspondent of Azadlig newspaper Mirza Sakit, who is kept in jail No 14, stopped the hunger strike, which he had started on January 26, Public Affairs Department of Azerbaijani Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service told APA.

According to the department, Mirza Sakit has written an application for stopping the protest action.

“He writes that he stops hunger strike, as his demand for being transferred to Justice Ministry’s medical unit has been considered,” the department said.

Head of the Azerbaijani Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov told APA that the medical commission of Justice Ministry’s Medical Department will visit jail No 14 tomorrow in connection with his demand.

“I was told if Sakit Zahidov has confirmed health problems, the prisoner will be transferred to the medical unit,” he said.
