PACE rapporteur on culture ready to visit the South Caucasus

26 January 2008 [11:23] - TODAY.AZ
Elward O'Hara, rapporteur of the PACE subcommittee for culture is ready to visit the South Caucasus to assess the state of cultural memorials.

He made the due announcement at the session of the PACE Commission for culture, science and education, held in Strasbourg.

"Drawing conclusions of his meeting with delegations of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Edward O'Hara confirmed the intention to visit the region if his terms on unlimited entrance to the territories, creating concern as to preservation of cultural heritage and introduction of a due program by the countries, are accepted", sources from the Public Relations Department under the National Assembly of Armenia reported.

At the same time, it should be noted that Raffi Ovannisyan, member of the Armenian delegation in PACE and ex-minister of foreign affairs, appealed for the differentiated approach to the issue of destruction of cultural heritage in wartime and destruction of Armenian cultural memorials in Nakhchivan after 11 years of reconciliation.
