Public association for combat with corruption: "Citizens of Azerbaijan complain about courts, police, pension fund and municipalities"

Public association for combat with corruption Transparency-Azerbaijan declared reports on the activity, carried our from October until December of 2007 and implementation of the project of holding seminars in anti-corruption centers.

The project was implemented in September-November of 2007 under support of the OSCE Baku office.

According to the chief executive of the association Rena Safaraliyeva, "Transparency Azerbaijan" is a local branch of Transparency International.

The said association is the first in the CIS, implementing a project for creation of Centers of Protection of Public Interests and Centers of legal assistance to the population. These project aim at mobilization of the efforts of the population in combatting corruption and protection of their civil rights.

According to the official of the association Yusif Abbasov, through the reported period, the centers that they created, received 2089 calls and complaints from the population, including 292 complaints in Baku, 494 in Ganja, 374 in Lenkoran, 599 in Guba and 330 in Sheki. In particular, the citizens complained about lawlessness in Azerbaijani courts, police, pension funds and municipalities.

Some of the claims were granted by efforts of the officials of the association.
