Azerbaijani peacekeepers returning from Iraq awarded in Baku

A meeting with Azerbaijani peeacekeepers, who have completed their service in Iraq, was held in Baku today.

The arrangement was attended by US ambassador to Azerbaijan Ann Darcy.

A.Darcy addressing the event expressed the gratitude of the United States of America for service in Iraq and its immense contribution to the Global War on Terror.

"Your hard work continues to broaden the excellent cooperation between Azerbaijan and the USA. I appreciate your dedication and the sacrifices that you have made in completing your service in Iraq. I too served in Iraq so I know some of the difficulties you faced. As stated by Marine Commanders, your work in Iraq has contributed directly to the saving of Marine lives. Your defense of Haditha Dam was incredibly important, as this part of Iraq's infrastructure is an important part of Iraq's future", she said.

At the same time, the ambassador noted that the US Marines highly value the close cooperation they had with Azerbaijani peecekeepers in this difficult mission.

"Over the past four years, they have made many fine comments about your skill and professionalism to American commanders and journalists".

The ceremony of awarding Azerbaijani military men, who excelled during the service in Iraq, was held after A.Darcy's speech.

It should be noted that the peacekeeping forces of Azerbaijan in Iraq make up 150 people.
