
Though the Azerbaijani delegation had raised the issue in Council of Europe (CE), and its various structures on Armenians-initiated arsons in the occupied Azerbaijani territories for several times, the organization did not give proper reaction, member of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Ganira Pashayeva said while addressing theParliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) winter session.
She said that though footages of Armenians’ arsons were presented, the reaction of the organization has not been serious.
“An area of thousands hectares was hit by destructed, with flora and fauna damaged. Those arsons damage ecology of not only Azerbaijan, but of the entire Europe. Moreover, many forests are cut on 20 % of the occupied lands of Azerbaijan and sold as raw materials to foreign countries,” she said.
Ms. Pashayeva noted that they expect serious efforts from the Assembly to prevent ecological disasters and stressed that the PACE member-state should give due reaction to such events and take measures.
Pashayeva stated that Azerbaijan faces problems of fresh water, while a greater part of water reserves os in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.
“Another matter is pollution of rivers flowing through Armenia to Azerbaijan with chemical, biological and other dangerous wastes by Armenia,” she said.
Azerbaijan has raised this issue in various international organizations and presented written appeal to the Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe, but there was no proper reaction.
Pashayeva mentioned that Armenia had not ratified a convention on protection of trans-border waters.
