24 December 2007 [14:59] - TODAY.AZ
The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev does not consider succession, on basis of which he became the leader of Azerbaijan, to be blameworthy.

Sometimes, I am called a successor. It is mainly a thesis of political opponents", the article of I.Aliyev, published in Azerbaijani official press, reads.

"I would like to say that I am not a successor of the President. I am a successor of my father and my family. Even when my father was not a president, I felt the responsibility of succession. Moreover, I would like to note, that not me, but my son, the youngest member of Heydar Aliyev's family, is a real successor of Heydar Aliyev", the president stressed.

He noted that the majority of the population voted for his candidacy. "The people of Azerbaijan voted for me-the candidate, who guaranteed the continuation of the political course of Heydar Aliyev. I occupied this position in this way", I.Aliyev noted.

"Succession is not considered an anti-democratic fact in modern society. Such facts have existed before. Personal features of a successor, his ability to fulfill the mission, empowered to him by the history, are more important", I.Aliyev said.
