Araz Azimov: "The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will always remain the main principle of negotiations with Armenia"

14 December 2007 [15:17] - TODAY.AZ
Armenia is spreading one-sided information regarding negotiations on the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict, following the meeting in Madrid.
The statement was made by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov.

According to him, the international community recognizes Nagorno Garabagh an integral part of Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan will never agree to give up its territories to another country and territorial integrity will always remain the main principle of negotiations for our country. The right of the nation for self-determination should not lead to the violation of the territorial integrity of the state and this right must be used on territorial integrity basis", the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan.

At the same time, A.Azimov noted that even the self-government model of the residents of Nagorno Garabagh can be realized within the framework of territorial integrity and such models exist in a number of European countries.

A.Azimov called the return of Azerbaijanis, driven from Nagorno Garabagh and other occupied lands, another principal position of Azerbaijan. He noted that the said principle is also supported by the international community.

"Otherwise, discussion of any model without returning Azerbaijanis to their native lands, can be regarded as a support of ethnic cleansing, practiced by Armenians. The future status of the Nagorno Garabagh region of Azerbaijan can be defined only in case of the equal participation of Azerbaijani and Armenian communities and equal guarantees of security", A.Azimov said.
