Heads of Azeri media to have meetings in US Department of State

Chiefs of several Azerbaijani media outlets continue meetings in the US.
Yesterday they had a meeting in American Press Institute. The director of the institute Andrew Davis, Associate Director Mary Glick and Director of Tailored Programs Steve Buttry participated in the meeting.

Andrew Davis said that he doubles for General of the US fleet, and added that he visited Azerbaijan, which is an important country for the US.

“I regret that there are people in the US who do not understand it,” he said.
He underlined that Azerbaijan’s neighborhood with Iran and Russia is in the US’s favor. He invited Azerbaijani media representatives to Iraq and called on them to familiarize with “the splendid activities carried out by the US forces”.

Noting that American Press Institute was established 60 years ago, Mr. Davis said about 40,000 people were trained at the institute, 1,200 newspaper heads are taught leadership practice and organizational works every year. The institute also teaches management, prepares new models of future newspapers, and offers forecasts and services to improve state of media in the US.
He said that the institute allocated $ 2bn. to media projects last year.

Following this, the delegation visited the editorial office of the Politics newspaper.
The editor-in-chief of the newspaper David Mark said that he created the newspaper after leaving the Washington Post, the newspaper is free, is published due to the advertisement incomes, they publish articles, analyses and surveys connected with the elections and added that they are not interested in other topics.

The delegation also visited the editorial office of the Washington Post’s website www.washigtonpost.com. The website’s vice-president of marketing Tim Ruder informed them of the website. He said the website consists of two parts, the part that covers the local area and the one that is used on the international level. Noting that the website has one million visitors every day the marketing director said it has 275 employees.

Azerbaijani delegation starts meetings in the US Department of State. They will negotiate with Lain Ball US department of State on European and Asian Affairs Bureau and Wendy Silverman, Stephanie Woltman-Winance on the US-Azerbaijan relationships.

The media representatives will later visit the US Senate Gallery, George Town University and editorial office of the Washington Post newspaper.

Azeri delegation will end the visit to the Washington with having meeting in Azerbaijani office of Voice of America radio and leave for Florida.

Azeri delegation includes director general of Azeri-Press Agency Vusala Mahirgizi, editor-in-chief of Day.az internet portal Elnur Baimov, editor-in-chief of Yeni Musavat newspaper Rauf Arifoglu, editor-in-chief of Ayna-Zerkalo newspaper Elchin Shikhli, editor-in-chief of Hafta ichi newspaper Sevinj Seyidova, editor-in-chief of Yeni Azerbaijan newspaper Algish Hasanoglu and editor-in-chief of Yeni Zaman newspaper Shakir Habiloglu.
