Abdullah Gul's candidacy to be protested in Istanbul

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul's candidacy to presidency will be protested by over 400 NGOs in a mass rally in Istanbul on Sunday.

The protesters with gather in Chaglayan square to protest against the nomination of one of the Justice and Development Party leaders for presidency, APA reports.

Organizer of the mass rally, Professor Nejla Arat said the rally will be crowded and resemble the protest action held in Tandogan square of Ankara on April 14.

"We hope that a lot of people will participate in the action, I hope that three will be more people than in Tandogan," he said.

One of the organizers of the rally, the chief of Chagdash Yashami (Modern Life) Support Circle, Professor Turkan Salyan called the candidacy of Abdullah Gul as a wrong choice.

"This choice is challenge to the republic, secular system. Only three people in AKP have made this decision: Tayyip Erdogan, Abdullah Gul, and Bulent Arinch. Their spouses do not coincide with the view of modern republic, secular system," he said.
