Rights activist to appeal to Azerbaijani president on editor's arrest

Elchin Behbudov, chief of Azerbaijani Committee against Torture met with Eynulla Fetullayev, founder and editor-in-chief of "Gundelik Azerbaijan" and "Realniy Azerbaijan" newspapers, in detention.

He told the APA that Eynulla Fatullayev told him that he is not dissatisfied with detention conditions. Eynulla Fatullayev only protested against the decision of Yasamal district court.

The rights defender said as the member of Rights Defense Committee for Eynulla Fetullayev he will appeal to President Ilham Aliyev.

"Eynulla Fatullayev's arrest casts shadow on democracy in Azerbaijan. I deplore his arrest," he said.

Yasamal district Court sentenced Eynulla Fetullayev to 2 years and 6 months imprisonment. He faced charges on the suit brought by a group of Khojaly residents.
