S. Korea, Azerbaijan to discuss closer ties at summit

23 April 2007 [09:10] - TODAY.AZ
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun will meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at Roh's office Cheong Wa Dae on Monday for discussions on enhancing practical bilateral cooperation in energy and natural resources, Cheong Wa Dae said.

Aliyev was to arrive in Seoul prior to the summit for a three-day state visit, becoming the first Azerbaijani head of state to visit South Korea since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. Roh visited Azerbaijan last May.

During last year's summit, the two leaders reached an agreement on the joint development of the Southwest Asian country's oil resources in the Caspian Sea.

The two countries also signed a memorandum of understanding to allow the Korea National Oil Corp. and other South Korean companies to participate in Azerbaijan's Inam oil well project under way in the central southern part of the Caspian Sea. Yonhap
