Committee to Defend Eynulla Fatullayev's Rights set up

A Committee to Defend the rights of Eynulla Fetullayev, editor-in-chief of "Gundelik Azerbaijan" and "Realniy Azerbaijan" newspapers, who has been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in jail today. The Committee made a statement after the broad meeting.

It says the editor-in-chief was imprisoned for groundless reasons. The defense committee condemns the recent arrest of five journalists in Azerbaijan in the period when local and international community deplores lawsuits against journalists for their professional activity.

The Committee for Eynulla Fatullayev's rights chaired by Arzu Abdullayeva, head of the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Azerbaijan national committee is composed of journalists, human rights defenders, parliament members and politicians.

Several opposition parties have made statement on the court decision against Eynulla Fatullayev. APA
