British and Swedish representatives to OSCE discuss media situation in Azerbaijan

The first secretaries of British and Swedish representatives to OSCE Alastar Long and Aasa Pousard are visiting Baku. The aim of the visit is to get information on the media situation in Azerbaijan and report it to their governments.

Today they met with the representatives of Azeri Press Agency (APA), Turan agency and Ayna Zerkalo newspaper. The discussions covered the statements by the Council of Europe on the situation of media in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

"Ayna- Zerkalo" representative applied to take concrete steps against pressures of state officials against media. He offered for instance, not issuing visa to states officials for visiting European countries.

British diplomat said stated that the diplomatic corpse in Baku called on the Azerbaijani government to protect human rights as significant part of stability. The guests said European political centers such as Vienna, Brussels and Strasbourg lack information about Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani media representatives called for the European institutions to have close cooperation with Azerbaijani civil society.

The meetings also covered the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict too. Alastar Long said he does not see the settlement of the conflict in the near future.

Alastar Long supported the solution of the conflict in the framework of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. He said that the option of Nagorno Karabakh's joining Armenia is impossible.
