POWs rights protection discussed

Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova met with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) country representative Susan Lopez.

The Ombudsperson gave detailed information on the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, the occupation of part of the country, as a result of which the rights of more than one million people were brutally violated, infringed the international humanitarian norms and principles, thousands of people died, or, were taken hostage, the POWs were undergone unprecedented tortures, and that the ceasefire is frequently broken.

The Ombudsperson expressed deep concern of the Azerbaijan society on destiny of Vusal Garajayev, the soldier recently captured by the Armenian militants at the front line.

The Ombudsperson requested Ms. Susan Lopez that the IFRC used its authorities and keep under control the conditions the soldier is kept and took urgent measures for release of the captive.

As stated, necessary measures are being taken for liberation of the servicemen.

The Ombudsperson has presented appropriate letter to Ms. Lopez to hand over to the ICRC president Jacob Kellenberg. AzerTAg
