Communique of 46 paragraphs adopted in NATO summit

Communique consisting of 46 paragraphs was adopted in the summit of the heads of NATO member states in Riga.

The participant countries took the commitments on protection of peoples' values in their countries and support of democracy, APA reports.

Besides, the communique stresses the importance of transformation of North Atlantic Alliance, improving the cooperation with partner countries, close cooperation with other countries and international organizations.

NATO member states decided to continue peace support mission in three important regions – Afghanistan, Balkans and Darfur. NATO will support Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai in the formation of democracy, civil society and fight against terrorism in the country.

Communique says that NATO supports the UN in Kosovo problem and the UN Security Council resolution 1546 in Iraq problem.

Besides, the military alliance supports the process of adaptation of NATO Armed Forces in the partner countries and military reforms in the countries aspiring to NATO membership.

The problems of integration of Georgia and Ukraine to NATO are reflected in the paragraphs 37, 38, 39 of communique.

NATO is satisfied with the integration policy of these countries to the alliance.

The participant countries agreed to the adoption procedure of Serbia, Chernogoriya, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the military alliance and it was stated that official invitations for membership in the organization will be sent to these countries.

Analogous invitation will be sent to Croatia, Macedonia and Albania about to complete.
