The publication maintained that Azeri nationals living there are able to extract any documents they want from the diplomatic representation for 1,500 Euros. These are mainly papers confirming that they are not citizens of Azerbaijan, which prevents the German authorities from deporting them. Germany's immigration body is aware of 114 such cases, Der Spiegel said.
Germany's secret service has embarked on steps to prevent this, the journal reported.
The German government is keen on countering such cases, in line with its terse stance on countries blocking deportation of their citizens.
In another development, two employees of the Yemeni consulate were sent out of the country due to a similar case over presumed malfeasance.
The Azeri Foreign Ministry has tackled a scrutiny on the matter. "Only after the check-up completes will we be able to say whether the reports were true or false," its spokesman Tahir Taghizadeh said. AssA-Irada
