Iranian MP calls on FM to react to Azerbaijan's "interventionist policies"

27 August 2006 [13:40] - TODAY.AZ
An Iranian MP called on the Foreign Ministry officials to show a decisive reaction to the "interventionist measures", as he calls, taken by the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Speaking to FNA, representative of Tabriz at the Islamic Consultative Assembly Seyed Mohammad Reza Mir Tajoddini said that "the media of Azerbaijan have taken some interventionist measures against the Islamic Republic of Iran during the last two or three months."

He said such measures include release of cartoons and remarks insulting the Iranian officials, adding that Azeri press have also voiced support for some Iranian anti-revolutionary and separatist agents who have fled to Azerbaijan.

The parliament deputy urged the Iranian Foreign Ministry to take the required measures to remind Azerbaijan of its undertakings regarding good neighborly relations.

Noting that Iran has always shown full respect for good neighborly relations, he said Baku must take the responsibility and act accountable for the interventionist and anti-Iran moves by the Azeri media and that country's support for fugitive, anti-revolutionary and separatist agents.

The MP reiterated that the Iranian Foreign Ministry is required to show a decisive reaction to such measures within the international rules and regulations.

Mir Tajoddini further informed that the issue is soon to be studied at the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in the presence of Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
