Ramil Usubov: "We want to be a friend with media"

19 August 2006 [16:57] - TODAY.AZ
Today Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan Ramil Usubov met with management of mass media.

Recent tension between the ministry and media, ministry's lawsuit against media representatives and other issues were discussed at meeting, APA reports.

Usubov said that some media representatives spread false, biased and libel information about officials of the ministry. He said that these cases are unacceptable.

"How logical it is to call the ministry officials criminals, bandits? It is not acceptable to 'cross out' all officials because of a Haji Mammadov. Of course, police are human beings as well, some commit crime, most are honest, just and deserved police. It is not correct to identify various human beings from juridical, humane and logical viewpoint.

"We should recognize everybody as they are. If the information spread by media is impartial, fair and ground, we correct our mistake on the basis of it. We want to be a friend to media but not foe. I am against arrest, detention and arraignment of journalists. But nothing is bottomless, everything has a frame," the minister said.

He promised that he will do his best to help release Shahin Agabayli, editor-in-chief of Milli Yol and Sakit Zahidov, correspondent of Azadlig.
