Azerbaijani President was asked to involve FBI agents in investigation of Elmar Huseynov murder

18 August 2006 [21:03] - TODAY.AZ
The Elmar Huseynov Fund held a roundtable related to criminal gang leader Haji Mammadov's resent testimony upon the trial.

The Fund's establisher Shahbaz Khuduoglu said Haji Mammadov is under influence of some groupings and therefore, his sentences are not true, APA reports.

"Following Haji Mammadov's testimony, ex-economic development minister Farhad Aliyev's family members contacted us to reveal the truth. On the very day we tried to prevent any attempts to use this murder for political interests. We want the real murderers and of Elmar Huseynov to be found. We do not mean to refute all the sentences uttered by Haji Mammadov, and we do not think Mammadov was unaware of this crime. But the matter is the investigation concluded that Teymuraz Aliyev and Tahir Khubanov committed the murder while it turns out later that Haji Mammadov-led gang stands behind this murder," Khuduoglu said.

Khuduoglu thinks the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents should be involved in the investigation of journalist Elmar Huseynov's murder.

Elton Guliyev, lawyer for Farhad Aliyev said the real murderers should be found.

"I assure you that Farhad Aliyev's involvement in this murder is ruled out unambiguously. Haji Mammadov bore no relationships with Farhad Aliyev," the lawyer said.

The roundtable participants adopted an appeal to President Ilham Aliyev for finding real murderers of Elmar Husyenov. The appeal states urgent need to invite US FBI specialists to investigate the crime. The appeal was signed by several journalists, public representatives, parliament members, Elmar Huseynov Fund establishers as well as Farhad Aliyev's family members and lawyers.
