PACE Election Observation Mission members to arrive today

The members of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Election Observation Mission will arrive in Baku from today to observe the rerun of parliamentary elections scheduled for 13 May in Azerbaijan.

The Council of Europe Information Office in Azerbaijan informed APA that the 19-member mission led by Dutch parliamentarian Leo Platvoet is composed of PACE members from Spain, France, Cyprus, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Turkey and etc.

The mission will function officially on 12 May. Leo Platvoet is due to arrive in Baku on 11 May. The observation mission members will observe electoral process in all of the ten Constituencies and announce preliminary assessment on 14 May.

Unlike the November 6, 2005 parliamentary elections, international observers do not plan to make united preliminary assessment regarding the re-elections.
