As Assa-Irada reports, the US Ambassador to Armenia John Evans has said that neighboring states or the countries co-chairing the OSCE Minsk Group brokering settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh should not be involved in a peacekeeping mission in the conflict zone.
"It is premature to speak of the mandate or timeframe for stationing peacekeepers, as no peace accord has been reached yet," he told a news conference.
The OSCE chairman-in-office and Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht said during his visit to Yerevan on January 25 that talks were under way with the member states of OSCE on implementing a peacekeeping mission in the region.
As Today.Az informed earlier, Turkey proposed to send its peacekeeping forces under a mandate of the OSCE peacekeeping force to Nagorno Karabakh. The next day Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian stated that Turkish presence was not acceptable for Armenia.
