The Norwegian ambassador in Azerbaijan Steinar Gil held a press-conference today in connection with the incident happened in the opening of the Training Center of the Norwegian Humanitarian Organization in Ganja yesterday.
The ambassador saying that he had been invited to the opening ceremony informed that the administration of the city was informed about the goal of the visit before leaving for Ganja. Police associates closed the doors of the Center and did not let associates working there in one day left to the opening on the basis of an application issued by the owner of the house the Center rented. The ambassador and other persons arrived at the ceremony were removed from the building the Center situated in. The ambassador also informed that he had not been called to the police; he went to the police department of the city himself to elucidate the question.
The ambassador was treated roughly there. Then the diplomat met the head of the Ganja city executive power Eldar Azizov and the head of the city promised to investigate the incident. Steinar Gil informed that he does not intend to make a tragedy of this incident, he will not also direct the attention of his government to this question, but it is unclear to him that who was interested in this incident.
According to the words of the ambassador, the territory the Center situated in was rented for 5 years, a contract was concluded with the owner of the house, and necessary repairs were conducted there.
According to the contract, if the contract is violated by any side, that side must pay $ 15 thousand of fine. Steinar Gil informed that the Center has been acting since May actually, 4 Norwegian citizens work there, children from families of moderate means and of displaced persons are taught English, computer knowledge, carpentry and cover-making art there. According to the words of the ambassador, if the question is not elucidated by the administration of the city, then it will be solved by means of the court.
“The incident will affect realization of the project, a new office will be rented and the Center will restore its activity”.
It should be noted that the minister of internal affairs Ramil Usubov also expressed his attitude to the incident happened in Ganja yesterday in the meeting with press representatives. The minister said that the ambassador had not appealed to them in connection with this question: “If there is an appeal, we will investigate this question. As to the office of the Center, according to my information, this is the house of one of residents of the city. The owner of the house rented his house, and after the period of contract ended, he wanted the house to be emptied”.
