“Iran supports using all opportunities of the coastal countries to accelerate the process of solution of the Caspian Sea problem by peaceful way”.
Iranian extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Russia Gulamrza Ansari made this statement.
He stated that, the coastal states keep on holding discussions on various levels and some joint meetings have been held so far. “Heads of coastal states made a decision on holding the next meeting in Teheran in Ashgabat summit in 2003. Iran has fixed the date of the summit as organizer of the meeting.
However, some coastal states consider that, the summit should be held after the Convention on legal status of the Caspian Sea is ready. Therefore, Teheran summit of the Caspian states has been postponed for several times. Iran is ready to hold the summit as usual. The exact date of the summit will be announced after consultations”.
