“The General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia asked the Azerbaijani side for the criminal case raised against Tahir Khubanov and Teymuraz Aliyev. But the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan has not responded to us yet”.
This was informed to the Georgian bureau of APA by the chief of the Foreign Relations Office of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia Elza Gurgenidze.
E.Gurgenidze informed that the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan made a request to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia some time ago for arresting the citizens of Georgia Tahir Khubanov and Teymuraz Aliyev who are considered suspicious in the murder of the late editor-in-chief of the “Monitor” journal Elmar Huseynov and turn them over to Baku: “But the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia officially informed Azerbaijan that according to the legislation of Georgia, not depending on that where citizens of our country committed a crime, they are not turned over to the opposite side. After the Azerbaijani side sends that criminal case to us, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia will investigate the criminal case. Only after this the mentioned citizens of Georgia can be arrested and sentenced according to the Criminal Code of Georgia. But turning over citizens of Georgia to Azerbaijan is not intended in out legislation”.
