Final talks between Venetian Commission and Azerbaijani government to be held on May 31 in Strasbourg

The experts of the Venetian Commission (VC) of Council of Europe analyzed the project prepared by Azerbaijan based on the advices given by VC related to the changes to the Elections Code in 2004.
The associate of the elections and referendums office Sergey Kuznetsov informed APA that the text consisting of the opinions of the experts would be presented to the Azerbaijani side later after the dinner today. We should note that the Venetian Commission analyzed the project prepared by Azerbaijan with the Democracy and Human Rights Bureau of OSCE situated in Warsaw.

The representatives of Azerbaijan - the leader of Milli Majlis (parliament) Safa Mirzayev and the director of the legislative and juridical examination problems department of the President's Office Shahin Aliyev will hold the final negotiations with the representatives of the Venetian Commission in Strasbourg. S.Kuznetsov informed that the opinion of the experts of VC would be announced to the public after that meeting. At the same time, he did not conceal the moments which displeased VC in the project: "Though one of the main paragraphs of the advices is changing the composition of the elections commissions, there is not any information in the project about it". S.Kuznetsov also stressed that there were positive moments in the project and these moments conform to the offers of VC. S.Kuznetsov informed in the response of the "If Azerbaijan does not accept the proposals of VC, will any sanctions be imposed against it?" question, VC itself did not impose sanctions: "We will present a document to political organs of Council of Europe including PACE. They will determine the future situation of the organization".

According to the words of S.Kuznetsov, the final document of VC related to the changes to the Elections Code of Azerbaijan will be accepted in the plenary sitting of the Commission on June 10-11.
