The Azerbaijani government is sure that forthcoming summit of the GUUAM, a regional organization of among Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Moldova, will give impetus to the activities of the organization, Novruz Mammadov, the head of the International Relationships Department of the President's Executive Power, told Trend.
"The event will give the 'second breath' to the development of GUUAM," he noted. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is also expected to participate and deliver paper to the forthcoming summit of the GUUAM due on 22 April.
"The President will state its standpoint on the situation and prospects for further development of the organization. The summit will assume special importance in the life of GUUAM," he underlined.
Regarding the prospects of expansion of the GUUAM, Mammadov voiced a careful optimism. "I can't say anything in this respect, as the relevant talks is underway. But the expansion of the organization is always credible - it depends on the efficient work of the GUUAM members. The question could become concrete in the Kishinev summit.
In reply to question weather CIS could weaken the activities of the GUUAM Mammadov said that Azerbaijan did not target opposing the organization to each other. "Every establishment pursues the goals of prospective development and fulfillment of its functions," he underscored.
