Unbelievable: 3 people survive the shipwreck in an ice box - PHOTOS

25 May 2010 [10:50] - TODAY.AZ
Three people have been found clinging to an ice chest three days after their boat capsized off the US coast.
John Nevarez, his brother Elias and friend Rebecca Sullivan suffered dehydration, severe sunburn and jellyfish stings - but are now recovering in hospital. According to the Coast Guard, their 20ft boat flipped after being hit by large waves.

Before being found floating in the Atlantic 30 miles off Brunswick in Florida, the shipwrecked trio had spent 68 hours in the water without life jackets. With the threat of sharks circling, they decided against throwing any of the squid bait and water in the ice box into the ocean.

They had left Mayport on a fishing trip - but family members alerted the US Coast Guard when they failed to return and a search was launched. The first wave reportedly took out the boat's engine, rendering it helpless in strong winds. Moments later, the second wave caused it to capsize, giving the trio no time to put on life jackets.

Eventually found using the ice chest to keep themselves afloat, the three - all from Florida - are now said to be in a stable condition. John, the older of the two brothers, told First Coast News: "We're just going through the 'I love yous' and the 'I miss yous' - everyone is with family."
