The sex.com web address will be auctioned off next week.
According to The Register, the URL, bought from Match.com founder Gary Kremen for $14m (£9.35m) in 2006, is being put up for sale after current owner Escom went into foreclosure.
It will be auctioned off next Thursday at Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, New York at 11am, with bidders having to put a $1m sum into escrow to participate in the sale.
The property is described as follows: "All of Borrower's interest in and to all right, title and interest in an undivided 100% interest in the internet domain name and related INTERNIC registration of the URL www.sex.com.
"And 100% of all cash proceeds, accounts receivable, licensing rights and intellectual property rights directly associated with or derived from the ownership of such URL."
Sex.com currently features a number of text links to websites offering phone sex, adult toys and pornography.
