Syrian refugee become Miss Arab World

27 December 2012 [19:32] - TODAY.AZ
Syrian beauty Nadine Fahad has been named Miss Arab World 2012 at a beauty pageant in Cairo. The brunette proudly announced she dedicated her victory to her native country, war-torn Syria, as well as her “second home,” Egypt.

To pick up the coveted title Fahad beat 15 other contenders from Lebanon to Sudan. Egypt`s Rovan Yousuf came second and Tunisia`s Nadya Khalifa ranked third in the contest, Al Arabiya reported.

According to the event`s website, organizers of the contest were looking for an “ideal Arab girl” to represent her country in respect to traditional Arab values of modesty and culture.
Each contender, aged between 19-26, had to take written and oral exams to prove she is more than “just a pretty face”.

Only a third of the marks in the Miss Arab World pageant go on appearance. The most important evaluation is based on the girls` cultural knowledge, communication capabilities and manners.

The event was reportedly attended by a number of Arab ambassadors, dignitaries and famed actors, while Arab singers, such as Doli Shahin and Marwa, performed during the show.
