London police blow up tourist's broken down car outside Parliament

15 June 2012 [12:39] - TODAY.AZ
Driving in the capital can be taxing even without the added pressure of extra tourists arriving for the Olympics.
But when visitor Nima Hosseini Razi broke down near Parliament, he was not expecting his car to be blown up by anti-terror police.

Mr Razi came to London as a sightseer but had problems with his Ford Mondeo as he drove around Parliament Square.  His car eventually broke down in Storey's Gate, next to the House of Commons and Westminster Abbey.

The business student at the University of Wales left a note on the dashboard, reading: "Dear Sir or Madam, this car is broken. I am just waiting for the AA to arrive. Please do not fine! Thank you, yours sincerely.”

But after deciding to visit Buckingham Palace while he waited for recovery services, he returned to find police had carried out a controlled explosion after deeming his car a security risk.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police were picking through the remains of his abandoned car when he got back to the scene.

To add insult to injury, a traffic warden also issued him with a ticket for parking illegally.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “We can confirm there was a suspect vehicle at Storey's Gate at 10.20am on Wednesday and a controlled explosion took place and the incident was subsequently deemed as non-suspicious.”
