The European Economic Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Industry awarded the “European Museum Standard” to Azerbaijan National Museum of Art

Based on unanimous decision made by the Board of Directors of the European Economic Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Industry (EEIG), the “European Museum Standard” (EUMS) has been awarded to the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art of the Ministry of Culture of the Azerbaijan Republic.

The honorary diploma of the said standard has been presented by the President of EEIG representative office in Azerbaijan, Mr. Nizami Piriyev to the Minister of Culture of the Azerbaijan Republic, Mr. Abulfaz Garayev at the premises of the Ministry of Culture.

On this occasion, the President of EEIG representative office in Azerbaijan, Mr. Nizami Piriyev said: “We are very glad that for the first time, Azerbaijani museum is awarded such a high-level European Museum Standard. It serves as a shining example of attention paid to the culture of our country. Awarding the European Museum Standard to the National Art Museum is a noteworthy and festal occasion for us.”

The Minister of Culture, Mr. Abulfaz Garayev has highly appreciated awarding of the European Museum Standard to the Museum and stated that it is the achievement of the entire Azerbaijani culture.

It should be noted that the “European Museum Standard” is awarded to selected museums that meet standards and criteria established by the European Economic Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Industry situated in Brussels, suit the certain concept of the museum, provide high-quality museum services and are professionally experienced with availability of special consultation services. Certificate awarded to the National Art Museum in Azerbaijan will be delivered to Professor Chingiz Farzaliyev, Director of museum.

The Azerbaijan National Museum of Art was established in 1936 and is currently located in two buildings constructed at the end of 19th century. Different art exhibits from Azerbaijan, Western Europe, Russia and Eastern countries are displayed at this museum.

Exposition of the museum has been arranged chronologically and by countries. Facilities of the museum have been systemized by 6 sections: fine arts, graphic art, statuary art, knitting, metalwork, porcelain ware. There is also a library containing a special literature dated as of the beginning of the 19th century at the museum.
