Azerbaijan State Film Fund hosted an event on occasion of 100th jubilee of a prominent theatre and cinema figure

On May 26, Azerbaijan State Film Fund hosted an event on the occasion of the 100th jubilee of a prominent theatre and cinema figure, Azerbaijan's and the USSR People's artist, the USSR State Prize laureate, a Professor, director and an actor Adil Isgandarov and a photo exhibition dedicated to him. The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Azerbaijan Republic and the State Film Fund.

The distinguished theatre and cinema figure Adil Isgandarov was born in 1910 in Ganja. He graduated from Baku Theatre Technical School (1931) and Moscow State Institute of Theatre Art named after A.V. Lunacharski (1936). He performed in Ganja Drama Theatre when he studied in the gymnasium, then he came to Baku and continued his activity in Azerbaijan State Drama Theatre. While studying in Moscow, Isgandarov passed director's course in the Badaye Theatre and the Vakhtangov Theatre. In 1936-1960, he was the director of Azerbaijan State Drama Theatre named after M. Azizbayov, in 1966-1974 he was a director of "Azerbaijanfilm" Film Studio named after Jafar Jabbarly.

His first work as a director was a performance "The Steel Eagle" (1936). Following this, he directed plays such as "Vagif", "Farhad and Shirin", "Aydin", "In 1905", "Misty Tabriz", "East Morning", Othello", Javanshir" and so on. During his leadership over the film studio, a number of valuable films were shot here and demonstrated on the national TV channels. Adil Isgandarov had a unique contribution to the re-establishment of production fields of the film studio and generally to the development of the national cinematography.
