Safura Alizadeh meets her Satellite

15 May 2010 [09:27] - TODAY.AZ
Past few weeks since May 1st Azerbaijani contestant at Eurovision 2010 Safura has spent cruising around Europe in a promo tour. One of her stops was at Germany where Safura gave many interviews and made a couple of appearances in Munich, Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg.

A trip to Germany was very important for Safura. And one of the reasons for that is because it’s a native country for Eurovision 2010 favourite Lena Meyer-Landrut. Though Safura didn’t have chance to meet Lena in person, she got acquainted to her song.

“I loved the song. It is very light and falls into your ear very easily. I’m looking forward to get acquainted to Lena in person in Oslo.” said Safura.

What makes these girls seem so similar and so different at the same time? Both Eurovision contestants are very young and undoubtedly attractive dark-haired ladies, singing about feelings. Lena is a year older and has already released her debut album which was second best-seller at www.amazon.de. Though, Safura not typical teenager as well and she will release her album in June, just weeks after Eurovision.

However, the most sustainable difference between Safura and Lena, is that German contestant is from “big four countries” and has a privilege to go straight to the final on May 29th, while Safura, coming from the very new Eurovision country Azerbaijan, will fight for her ticket at the semi-final on May 27th.

And there are all reasons for the battle. Emotional ballad ‘Drip Drop’ by Azerbaijani contestants made hearts of many European specialists and Eurovision’s fans to skip a beat. Now everybody is waiting for more in Oslo. Some polls even predict Safura to win.

Yet Safura doesn’t seem to rest on her laurels.

“I work night and day to exceed all possible expectations!”, young lady says.

Safura and Lena possess strong potential in their singing talent. Their artistic gifts were both examined on major national contest shows. Lena has won German TV show “Our star for Oslo” and Safura triumphed in Azerbaijani Pop Idol. Naturally, the huge ratings of German RTL channel has already secured millions of views and sympathies for Lena long before the start of the contest.

At the other hand the mysterious Land of Fire – Azerbaijan, the most Eastern point of Eurovision map, turn to be a kind of Terra Incognita for the audience of the contest. The bright and professional debut in the contest, two of two consequent top-10 places in the Grand Final make everybody look to the East with great interest in the recent years.

Well, all we can do now is to keep fingers crossed and wait for Europe’s final choice! Good luck to Safura and Lena! By the way, one may have noticed, the girls have recently become popular in a very similar way – in the pool incidents…
