Amazing stone figures of an Azerbaijani sculptor – PHOTOS

He has a large workshop under open air in Baku which houses numerous figures made of stone. He says stones are like a woman’s heart. Once your win it, it will be easy to talk to her. Otherwise, there will be a very big gap between you. Najafov is the sole sculptor and painter in Azerbaijan to breathe a life to stones by engraving different figures on them. He admits it is very difficult and time-consuming to work with stones. Therefore, not every sculptor takes up this work.

The most remarkable for its size and extraordinary look among the Najafov’s works was the one he called “Games of the Time.” It is about two big wheels, symbolizing mill of the time, and two big holes resembling eyes which, indeed, says that all misdeeds are committed by blind eyes throughout the Earth. This monumental work of art has very valuable words that apply to all times carved on it: “Don’t forget two things - God and death. Forget two things – kindness you did and evil you faced.”

Najafov has many other works with deep, deep meaning other than that. “Black moon”, “The Blind”, “Angel”, “Stages of life”, “Echo of time”, “Conversation”, “Resting old man”, “A millennium-old person”, “Worship”, “Twins” and “Fountain” tell many things to those who get to know the meaning behind these just engraved stones.
