George Clooney running the largest celeb call center ever

23 January 2010 [15:13] - TODAY.AZ
Sounds like the odds of landing your favorite star – Daniel Day-Lewis, anyone? – on the line during the Hope for Haiti Now telethon are pretty great.

The Friday night global event features "the biggest bank of faces that you recognize answering the phones," founder and co-host George Clooney tells the media, adding that many of the celebs are taking part "not to be on the show, simply to answer the phones."

Some 140 celebrities have signed up for the two-hour telethon, set to air at 8 p.m. on Friday and stream live on the Web. And the participating group reads like a Who's Who of entertainment, media and politics.

In New York, musical heavy hitters Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Shakira, Jennifer Hudson and Wyclef Jean will join President Bill Clinton and Jon Stewart.

In Los Angeles, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Morgan Freeman, Drew Barrymore, Halle Berry, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson are among the famous faces – and that's just on the acting side. Musical artists include Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, Stevie Wonder, Keith Urban, Kid Rock and John Legend. Media powerhouse Oprah Winfrey is also on board.

Across the Atlantic, Jay-Z, Bono and The Edge, Rihanna and Coldplay will join Robert Pattinson, who, as previously reported, is a headliner.

So, if you've always longed to hear how Timberlake (or another of your favorite celebs) answers the phone, now's your chance – all while making a charitable contribution for those in need in Haiti.
